I haven't posted in a while, but I have been busy!
Here is a great project to add big impact to your home.
I've included some pictures and descriptions of the steps I took to make it, you can always put your own spin on things.
I was inspired by this sign found on Pinterest:
An amazing piece from Between You and Me Signs
While school was in session, I scored a beat up pallet from our custodian & my darling husband was sweet enough to take it apart for me. I was left with some great weathered/distressed boards.
The first step was to connect the boards.
I used wood screws to attach them like this:

Next, I painted the front with white paint then followed it up by rubbing in some dark brown wood stain.
I added a bit more distressing by running over the whole thing with an electric sander, paying special attention to the corners and edges.
Then, using the original inspiration picture as a guide, I stenciled the words with a pencil.

I used Michael's stencils in Helvitica font.
{sizes 2, 3, 4, & 6 inches}
Here is a tip for placing the letters:
once you determine the phrase/word you want and where you want it, begin by stenciling the very middle letter in the middle of the designated space {does that make sense? hmmm}
Then, stencil the first and last letters at the outer edges of the designated space.
Then the letter in the middle of the "true middle" letter and the first letter {ok, now I'm confusing myself}.
If you are writing the word LAUGH, you would first stencil the U, then the L & H, and finally the A and the G, making sure the spacing is even throughout.
After painting in all of the letters, I ran over the sign with a fine grit sandpaper on my electric sander once again.
And that's it!
I'm thrilled with how this turned out and am excited to use this process again in the future!!
