Resolutions in Motion {Taking the First Step}

Back in December I posted about my depression and the dark place I was at at that time. It was then that I realized one of the reasons I was feeling so low was because I was not in a healthy place...physically.

With the help of my amazing OBGYN I found the resource I needed. The Melrose Institute for eating disorders. {Wait, aren't eating disorders for skinny people? Ha! Women are having just as much trouble with overeating as they are with under-eating/binge-eating}

Since the beginning of December, I have met with an MD three times and started seeing a therapist that specializes in food and weight issues.  It is a wonderful program and I would recommend it to anyone.

One of the first things I learned about myself is that I have am insulin resistant, meaning that I have elevated levels of insulin which cause my body to store sugar and carbs as fat instead of using it for energy.
My doctor explained that even if I would drastically decrease my calorie intake, if I was still eating a lot of sugar and carbs, I would not be able to loose as much weight as I want.
In order for my body to drop the pounds, I need to increase my protein intake and make sure to pair proteins with carbs when I eat.
Wow!  What a concept - finding the right nutritional composition for my body!

I'm also working on some personal goals with my therapist, and this has been going GREAT!

My progress so far....

Yeah Me!!

Next week I'll tell you all about my secret weapon :)

  7. How do you get tested for being insulin resistant?

    1. It was one of the tests my doctor order. A simple blood test that she said most doctors don't do.

  8. Good for you, chica! I agree that eating disorders can be on either sides of the spectrum, and don't matter what physical appearance you may have. (and I say that as an overweight gal that loves eating away her boredom.)
    You're doing great!
